Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden – A Tribute to History on Green Turtle Cay
Tucked in the heart of historic New Plymouth on Green Turtle Cay, the Loyalist Memorial Sculpture Garden is one of the most culturally significant and visually striking landmarks in The Bahamas. Designed by acclaimed Bahamian artist Alton Lowe and American historian Mary Moseley, this open-air garden honors the Loyalist settlers who fled the American Revolution and arrived in the Abacos in the late 1700s.
The garden features 24 busts of prominent Bahamians—Black and White, male and female—who played key roles in shaping the nation's history. At the center stand two life-sized bronze sculptures: one of a Loyalist man and one of a freed African woman, symbolizing the complex, intertwined heritage of The Bahamas.
The garden’s elegant design includes native plants, historic plaques, and a layout that encourages reflection and connection to the past. It’s not just a memorial—it’s a celebration of resilience, unity, and the diverse identities that make up Bahamian culture.
